The Lucerne Regatta Association was founded in 1903. Since then, the Lucerne Regatta Association has organized international rowing regattas in Lucerne, which have been held on Lake Rotsee since 1933. The Lucerne Regatta Association and the Lucerne Regatta have therefore been writing sporting and rowing history for over a hundred years. The first ever rowing world championships were held here in 1962, and Lucerne also hosted the world championships in 1974, 1982 and 2001. In 1974, the first world championship medals were awarded for women and lightweights. Lucerne has also hosted the European Championships four times and organizes the annual Swiss Championships.
To ensure that rowing has a strong future in Lucerne, the rowing infrastructure has been modernized in recent years with a budget of 16 million Swiss francs, in harmony with the unique natural and recreational area on Lake Rotsee. The Lucerne Regatta Association and the Lucerne Regatta thus guarantee first-class rowing infrastructure in the middle of a nature conservation and recreation area.
